IN OLE’ MEXICO

IN OLE’ MEXICO
(To tune of “New York, New York,” by John Kander and Fred Ebb, from Martin Scorsese 1977 film of same name)

Start spreading the word
We’re leaving today
Going back ‘cross the river to
Ole’ Mexico

Like migrating birds
We’re flying away
I feel the urge to live again
In Ole’ Mexico

To lay my head down
En mi casa, where fears don’t gnaw
That immigration will come
And break down the door

Once it seemed absurd
That we wouldn’t stay
When no jobs were delivered in
Ole’ Mexico

But dreams die hard, we’re drawn
To where no gringos scorn
Where I was born
In Ole’ Mexico
