TWO MONTHS

TWO MONTHS
(To tune of “Tonight,” by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim from Broadway musical, “West Side Story.”)

All year long they’re inciting with the barbs
Fighting for their jobs in congress
Warring for rights of bragging in congress
All the problems go nagging, and congress,
Where is congress?
Fighting for spoils
While the populace toils and blood boils

Two months, two months
They’ve voted for two months
While claiming, “Here’s our great Christmas gift.”

Two months, two months
Who cares about two months?
The economy needs a big lift.

Two days, two years,
What will it matter?
With congress a Mad Hatter,
We need a plan for once.

We cope, we live
And when we need some hope
Congress gives
Two months.
