BACK DOWN, WE’LL SCUTTLE THE BOAT

BACK DOWN, WE’LL SCUTTLE THE BOAT
(To tune of “Sit Down, You’re Rocking the Boat,” by Frank Loesser from Broadway show, “Guys and Dolls.”)

Verse:
Back in Twenty-Ten, when Obama-Care was voted
All Republicans said, “What a Lie!”
They harangued so loudly, what they saw as Socialism
That government would force someone to buy.

Chorus:
The, Republicans yelled, “Back down,
Back down, we’ll scuttle the boat”
The Republicans cried, “Back down
Back down, this law won’t float,
For the high court will turn it over,
With a loud resounding, majority vote,
Back down, back down, back down, back down,
Back down, this law won’t float.”

Verse:
Throw a pebble in a stream, and the water there will ripple
Or don’t toss it and the water will lie still
But, health care runs through commerce, like a wild and raging river
And we’re all in the boat against our will

 Chorus:
Still, the, Republicans yelled, “Back down,
Back down, we’ll scuttle the boat,
The Republicans cried, “Back down,”
“Back down, this law won’t float.”
For the high court will turn it over,
With a gavel so heavy, then we will gloat,
Back down, back down, back down, back down
Back down, this law won’t float”

Verse:
Now, the hospitals and the doctors, welcomed more insurance dollars
For them, this new law wasn’t a bad dream
And helping lower-income folk, the middle class with children
Shouldn’t cause conservatives to scream

 Chorus:
Yet, the Republicans yelled “Back down
Back down, we’ll scuttle the boat”
The Republicans cried, “Back down
To privatize we’ll promote
For the high court will turn it over,
With a lofty opinion, of great note
Back down, back down, back down, back down
Back down, this law won’t float.”

 Verse:
Yesterday the highest court, of our land gave its opinion
In a strangely twisted, yet pragmatic dance
Held a penalty a tax, and the Commerce Clause too broadly
Applied to this law’s health-care mandate stance

 Chorus:
So, the Republicans cried “we’re down
We’re down because of this vote”
The Republicans yelled “we’ll drown
Before we’ll stay on this boat
In the tally of fall’s election, will be the antidote
We’re down, we’re down, we’re down, we’re down
We’re down, until the next vote.”

“And, we’ll not back down, back down, back down
Until we’ve scuttled the boat!”

HE’S RIGHT AND SHE’S RIGHT

HE’S RIGHT AND SHE’S RIGHT
(To tune of “He Loves and She Loves,” by George and Ira Gershwin)

He’s right and she’s right
And they’re right, and we’re right
Righteous as right can be

If I’m right, then you’re wrong
And, what could be more wrong?
 Right is a fantasy

At Chris Columbus every cynic laughed and spat
Certain he’d sail right off a world completely flat
They told him

We’re right and you’re wrong
So, we won’t sing you’re song
For we love our certainty

DRONE SPYING

Police are intending to utilize more drone technology.  The lyric below might be the new police theme song.

DRONE SPYING
(To tune of “MoonRiver,” by Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer)

Drone Spying
Right above your head
We’re watching as you tread
Your way

We’re seeing
If you’re fleeing
Or just being naughty
As some people may

George Orwell’s
1984
Not fiction anymore,
But true

Your privacy’s gone
Down the drain
You’re safer we’ll explain
While up here we remain
Drone Spying
On you

INSIDER TRADING

INSIDER TRADING
(To tune of, “Come Softly Darling” by Gretchen Christopher, Barbara Ellis and Gary Troxel (1959), a pop hit song performed by, “The Fleetwoods.”)

Chorus:
Insider trading,
Troll rules in vain
Raw greed parading
Who’ll reap an unfair gain?

Verses:
A little secret to tell
Rare information to sell
Before the news is released
Some favored palms to be greased

Chicanery on the wires
Insiders stoking the fires
Sly tips for only a few
No, Raj won’t be calling you

Chorus:
Insider trading
What is the fuss?
We ride on waiting
Hot tip, they’re off of the bus

 Verses:
Gordon Gekko was right
Greed is the cross and the light
Morality is for fools
Insider tips are the tools

That merger not going though
A new bad rating is due
Who’ll know before others will?
Who’ll make a million, a kill?

Chorus:
Insider trading
The market’s train
Departs the station
We’re standing in the rain

Verses:
The SEC needs a quake
The takers take all they take
The rest of us sip the lees
Dead leaves, they fall off the trees.

Enforcement, what a big show
Big clients all in the know
Stock traders eying the book
Analysts letting them look

Chorus:
Insider trading
Don’t dare complain
That’s vile degrading
The system holding reign

WE’RE LATE

WE’RE LATE
(To tune of “I’m Late,” by Sammy Fain and Bob Hilliard, from Walt Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland.”)

We’re late, we’re late
Iran is now irate
And seeks two megatons of hate
We’re late; perhaps, too late

Good nations wait
And properly debate
Their statesmanship of folderol
Invites a bomb to fall

What fun, why spoil?
Come radioactive oil
The horse and buggy will be great
We’re late; perhaps, too late
