MITT AND RYAN

MITT AND RYAN
(To tune of “Love and Marriage” by Sammy Cahn and Jimmy Van Heusen)

Mitt and Ryan
Mitt and Ryan
Form a ticket that is awe inspirin’
Hear them as they grandstand
Shouting slogans straight from Ayn Rand

Mitt and Ryan
Mitt and Ryan
“Trickle-down” they’re selling but who’s buyin?”
Kneel and pray to Reagan
And if you won’t they’ll call you pagan

To them needing help is weak, “you’re
Lazy, if idle”
Mitt’s foot is always in his mouth
He needs a good bridle

Mitt and Ryan
Mitt and Ryan
Poised to be the bane of plain folks tryin’
To end a hard-times trauma
We don’t need them
We don’t need them
We don’t need them
Elect Obama!

WATCH THE TAX RETURN YOU FILE

As the deadline draws near for filing extended 2011 personal tax returns, I thought an admonition appropriate.

WATCH THE TAX RETURN YOU FILE
(To tune of “What a Difference a Day Made,” by Maria Mendes Grever and Stanley Adams, made famous by singer Dinah Washington)

Watch the tax return you file
Watch what you put inside it
You’ve earned income, don’t hide it
Report every line true
I’m warning you

Think that big windfall you’ll shelter?
That tax law’s helter-skelter?
Think again, you will swelter
In the heat of a jam
A tax exam

Will happen, then you
May find grief to your menu
Watch the tax return you file
Because, they’re watching you

THE LOBBYIST’S PRAYER

THE LOBBYIST’S PRAYER
(To tune of “My Prayer” by James Kennedy and Georges Boulanger, recorded by The Platters)

Intro
When vote cloture draws nigh
And the pollsters start ringing
When the stakes are quite high
So the lobbyists say
Then out of the woodwork they crawl
And pray

Verses
My prayer
Is a meeting for two
Somewhere out-of-the-way
With a Capra* plot-line

My prayer
Has some cash out of view
Nothing needed to say
Graft is simply divine

Bridge
That bill
Coming up on the hill
We don’t want to pass
That this payment will kill

Verse
My prayer
And the comfort it gives
Knowing profits will soar
For as long as greed lives

Let the losers play fair
Money answers my prayer

WE SHOULD JUST STAY OUT

WE SHOULD JUST STAY OUT
(To tune of “We Can Work it Out,” by John Lennon and Paul McCarthy”)

We can’t see it their way
But decide to intervene, march into crisis spots
When we see it our way
We don’t understand and so we can’t connect the dots
We should just stay out
We should just stay out

 All those good intentions
Unintended consequences always come between
Facts that no one mentions
Leave the nation building to the people on the scene
We should just stay out
We should just stay out

The world is more complex and if we choose
To poke our nose in foreign doors
We’ll be a stranger in a strange land, whose
Nose has been broken before

Are the people free there?
In Afghanistan, and Viet Nam and in Iraq
Didn’t need a be there
Don’t we have great problems of our own here to attack?
We should just stay out
We should just stay out
