WE ARE THE CLOWNS

WE ARE THE CLOWNS
(To tune of “Send in the Clowns,” by Stephen Sondheim from “A Little Night Music (1973))

A Fine debate
Top of the heap
Obama looked presidential
Or was he asleep?
Talk of the town
Who are the clowns?

Well, was it great?
As seen from afar
If Romney had been selling cars
He’d be the star
Talk of the town
Who are the clowns?

What did we learn?
Logic defies
One candidate saying nil
One telling lies
Behind the podiums tall
Blue and red ties
That we learned naught
Should not surprise

Now we must wait
For the next time
Another chance to decide
Truth or a crime?
Talk of the town
Who are the clowns?

A fine debate?
Salient and sage?
More like a carnival show
There on the stage
Talk of the town
Who are the clowns?
Friend, we are the clowns
