(To the tune of “Charade” by Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer from film “Charade” (1963))

Stand on the fiscal cliff
Fate of own imposing
Big budget cuts
No ifs or buts
Due to a stubborn rift

Breathe in the fouling whiff
Campaign mud decomposing
“Sequester” is lame
A dumb high-jinx game
Pray that the winds will shift

When the economy
Needs some help, a nudge
One hears but brinkmanship
Neither side will budge

Plays like some dream-worn riff
Song of a just-supposing,
“Both sides shook hands
Heard our demands”
Fantasy’s grandest gift
