YE OLE THANKSGIVING DAY

YE OLE THANKSGIVING DAY
(To the tune of “No Other Love” by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, from Broadway show “Me and Juliet” (1953))

Thanksgiving made passé
The bottom line has trumped it
Thanksgiving hours have bumped it
Shop ‘til you drop they say

A perfect holiday
To our beginnings harkened
One day the stores were darkened
No time for thanks today

One more sale to plug
Bag to lug
High on the drug
Of wanting more things

What will the children say?
They will recall a fable
Times we’d sit round the table
Talking the day away
On Ye Old Thanksgiving Day
