PLEASE MISTER PRESIDENT

PLEASE MISTER PRESIDENT
(To the tune of “Matchmaker, Matchmaker” by Jerry Bock & Sheldon Harnick from the Broadway Musical Fiddler on the Roof (1964) and film adaptation (1971))

Please Mister President
Please no more lies
We are not fools.
You can’t disguise.
What isn’t true simply saying is true
Just look at your beady-eyes.

Now Mister President.
You still have time.
Almost two years.
To upward climb.
Out of the gutter and into our hearts.
Assuming you’ve done no crime.

For George learn to be a leader.
For Honest Abe to be wise.
For Thomas become a reader.
Your ignorance leaves you to fantasize.

Please Mister President we’re so afraid
With Satan we fear a deal has been made.
To get elected a deal like with Faust
And with all our souls you’ve paid.
